Has there been a lot of work on this in the last two releases? I cannot provide further details at the moment but with 6.6 I was unable to use a Samsung 1TB USB3 HDD with the onboard USB 3 ports on my desktop and had to use USB 2.0 instead. The drive was not picked up in dmesg output at all.
Looks like it has an NEC chip: xhci0 at pci4 dev 0 function 0 "NEC xHCI" rev 0x03: msi, xHCI 0.96 usb0 at xhci0: USB revision 3.0 uhub0 at usb0 configuration 1 interface 0 "NEC xHCI root hub" rev 3.00/1.00 addr 1 Motherboard is ZOTAC 880GA-ITX-AE. Which is an AMD AM3 board with "AMD RS880 Host" and "AMD RS780 PCIE". I know it's rather old hardware now and a bit specialist being ITX but I would expect these NEC chips to be bundled on quite a few boards.
