Thank you, that information is certainly invaluable! Then might I suggest using the stunnel package in client mode. That way you can have two relayd "forward to" directives without tls. You the use stunnel to wrap the connection in TLS. I've done this sort of quackery before on a FreeBSD host as their relayd port is somewhat ancient and does not support the newer TLS protocols.
