I came to OpenBSD fairly late (around version 6.4) and used mostly Debian and FreeBSD before that. I was always annoyed by other system trying to be more user-friendly by adding more magic and more automatisms that end up making the system more complex. OpenBSD invests into clean concepts that are easy to understand and then educate its users. I find this much more pleasurable to work with. Maybe a bit more effort, but much less frustration.
