That just tells you the type of kernel you're under and nothing about whether the hardware can run anything else. To see whether your machine can run the amd64 kernel, look at the dmesg (ala /var/run/dmesg.boot) and check whether the cpu0,etc lines advertise the "LONG" cpu flag. Philip Guenther
