That is what I have to end up doing till someone is willing to fix it or
not. It does look like there are no issues at the moment with it
disabled so I will keep it this day.

Out of these two choices you would definitely want to use amd64 with acpipci
disabled rather than i386. In fact, the i386 generic kernel doesn't include
acpipci which is basically why it boots on your machine whereas amd64 doesn't.
