Dear Misc@,

With the 7.8 release there were a number of fresh messages on the list
about 2015-ish intel Macbooks affected by the ACPI timeout bug. The fix
for these models is well known and documented and patching methods have
been circulated again on the list, but for convenience we (h3artbl33d
and I) decided to prebuild some patched installer images and make them
available:

https://mirror.openbsdonapple.wiki/pub/OpenBSD/7.8/amd64/

This is just the standard amd64 release with the two relevant lines in
acpi.c commented out to get rid of the 10,000-second timeout
issue. Everything else is "stock"...apart from the ANSI art we also
included among the files on the mirror ;)

So this is hopefully a simpler way to get OpenBSD running on models
like the A1465, A1466, A1502.

This -stable release was built today (2025-10-29) so it includes all
`syspatch` corrections to errata (001-004). We will endeavour to make
new builds available whenever there are new patches to --stable.

For those wondering, the built installers have not yet been signed with
signify, but they will be, hopefully in the next 48 hours.

7.7 is not available just yet, if there is a need, send me an e-mail
and we'll build it.

Hope that this helps other people like myself, using older Apple HW!

Best wishes,

rqm
