In the context of the installer scripts, 'AI' has long been used an abbreviation for Auto Install, (see various variable names in install.sub that begin with 'AI'. So I'm guessing it's something that was in snaps for a while, as I don't see it in the most recent amd64 snap. Not necessarily a joke.
