Hello, I tested OpenBSD 8.0-current (amd64) on a MacBook Pro 15-inch (A1398, Mid 2015).
The system boots from USB but hangs during kernel initialization. The last visible console messages are: sd0 at scsibus1 targ 1 lun 0: <NVMe, Samsung SSD 970, 2B2Q> sd0: 476940MB, 512 bytes/sector, 976773168 sectors No further boot progress is observed. I have encountered the same stopping point with earlier OpenBSD versions on this MacBook. I understand that a change to aml_rdpciaddr() in dsdt.c (revision 1.276, November 23, 2025) fixed an ACPI/PCI bus selection issue affecting some Apple laptops. Commit: https://github.com/openbsd/src/commit/0c90e2b526b26d9f50dde7f7712cec107cda3326 However, the problem still appears to be present on my A1398. Has anyone tested OpenBSD 7.9 or 8.0-current on a MacBook Pro A1398 and encountered similar behavior? Could you suggest how to obtain more useful diagnostic information when the system hangs at this stage of boot? I would be happy to test patches or additional kernel diagnostics on the actual hardware. Thanks for your work on OpenBSD.
