Hi folks,
I have been writing Linksys because i need to know if the v5 of
their WMP54G wireless NIC can be used with the ral driver.
Here's an abstract of the mail:
Me asking:
"I also need to know if v5 of the WMP54G uses a Ralink Technology RT25x0
chip?"
Linksys answering:
"I apologize but we are not allowed to disclose any information
regarding the
chipsets of any of our devices. Besides, we do not have any access with
those
information. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience."
Wtf is that? How can that be a secret?
Maybe someone on the mailing list can provide me with an answer to:
1. Can v5 af the card be used with the ral driver?
2. Why are such information not available to their customers?
Based on their grammar, their support centre is very likely outsourced
to some remote location...
Two years ago, I was asking Dell Mobile Support of what the
characteristics of the LCD screen in my Dell Inspiron 8100 are.
(Something like viewing angle etc.)
In total, I've sent them about 10 emails, they've sent me about 22
emails (2 emails per each question clarification + 2 emails for
survey).
Out of the things I can now remember about this incident:
1. They were sending me the same three useless answers in a
merry-go-round fashion, and each of their answers was already posted
on dell.com.
2. Each time I received an email from them, they were informing me
that a different person is answering my email in order to guarantee a
'fast response'.
3. They've called me "Dear Cheers" (see my signature for a hint).
4. Instead of providing me with the information I have requested, they
have suggested that I call their sales team if I was buying a new
laptop -- on this, I've informed them that I will indeed contact a
sales team, but not theirs -- the one of IBM. :)
Since then I have a ThinkPad R51, which is much better anyways;
although to be fair, Inspiron 8100 had better (titanium?) speakers. :)
But the lamp in the screen on 8100 almost died in merely 2 years, and
the battery can provide only 8 minutes runtime.
Cheers,
Constantine.
