I recommend the book "TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1" by W. Richard Stevens to find this answer. It includes extensive descriptions of each field and its function. Theoretically you could also find this information on Google, Yahoo, or possibly even in your own text book, but that wouldn't be nearly as easy as just broadcasting to a list of people that might help you not help yourself...
