I recently upgraded (via clean install) a machine that was previously
running 3.8 and wi in hostap, without incident for the last six months
or so, to 3.9 running ral in hostap. While all other hardware on the
system has remained unchanged, the box has locked up five times in the
last five days at various times. Basically, everything freezes, no
response to pings, and there is no apparent panic--just a blinking
cursor on an unresponsive monitor after the login prompt. The system
appears to lockup when moving a larger amount of traffic than usual, but
I'm not certain, and, while this does not occur just prior to the
freeze, one thing I've noticed that didn't occur before the upgrade is
the following making its way occasionally into /var/log/messages:

May 10 07:21:57 meth /bsd: fxp0: warning: SCB timed out
May 10 07:22:09 meth last message repeated 60 times
May 10 07:22:14 meth /bsd: fxp0: device timeout

Any thoughts on how to proceed (outside of possibly replacing "known
good" hardware)?

Thanks.
