Or want an answer. I'm not an authority, but I'm not going to fire up X
and firefox just to be able to help someone who posted a random
question - unless it is very interesting, of course.

This is a general principle on mailing lists: it is better to make the
poster do some additional work than making the readers do even a little
extra work - the total amount of time spent is less.

All in all, I'd probably pass by such a message without even looking at
it, even when - by chance - I already had X and, possibly, Firefox up.
