Check out mutt, it's in packages and it's very nice. I don't know nail or nmh, but it doesn't have the downsides of pine so I'd definitely prefer mutt over pine. Yes, I am a mutt user, so I'm biased. Please take that into consideration ;) You should probably try out a couple of different solutions and settle with what you like best.
