Just a stupid idea, but shouldn't you use ttyU0 instead of cuaU0?

I've always used cua as I'm dialing out to the machine on the end of the serial cable - but using the ttyU0 had the same effect, ie no output, but it should work as well.

I'm sure this is a chipset issue - as the FT232R has the same product id (0x6001) as the 8U232AM chipset that is supported by uftdi.c
