i must second this suggestion. almost every time i've seen these IDE timeout messages, it means that the disk(s) are damaged, close to dead or totally dead. i find that doing disk intensive operations, e.g. extracting src.tar.gz, with the machine in question will likely reproduce the timeouts if this is the case. cheers, jake
