I read in a few posts that the Hifn 7956 was not working correctly. Theo said that there were some bugs in the driver. This is from around June 2006.
I am planning on getting this chip only for the random number generator. It seemed that the above bug was related to encryption. Does anyone know if the random number gen does indeed work with this driver? Is there a quick way to test it? I looked through the source code of OpenSSH trying to determine where it gets the random numbers to generate the potential primes but I was a little lost when it started to go to the "engine". I presume that this code sees what is on the machine and then decides what is available. Anyway.. I decided on this chip because I wanted something relatively cheap with a random number generator. If anyone knows of another pci board that is in the same price range that would be great. Otherwise.. has anyone heard of problems with this driver delivering random data into the random pool? BTW... this is my first post... and the OpenBSD team deserves mad props
