The basic idea is you want something that can convert from 3.3v TTL voltage levels to proper RS-232 voltages such as a Maxim MAX3232. You can buy a kit for the cable from an electronics supplier, you can buy a premade cable from IODATA/SuperTank or assemble all the parts yourself.
