Hi. Last week I got a fresh system (my old system died) and so I had to install.
The system is a DualCore AMD64 X2 4600+ with integrated NVIDIA NICs (nfe0 and nfe1) and build in NVIDIA RAID. (for details see dmesg below) The first problem I ran into was the problem with the onboard NICs. I had to boot about 20 or 30 times to get networking working (read get a DHCP lease). Usually the network starts, dhclient tries to obtain a IP address and fails after about 5 sec. with "nfe0: watchdog timeout". I tried the latest CVS snapshot yesterday (it wasn't that fun to fetch it without a sporadic working NIC) but the problem remains. The second problem is the permanent system freeze without any error (or kernel panic) after some minutes when using the MP kernel. At first I suspected a borken RAM, but I had no problems building Gentoolinux from stage1 and memtest reports no error. Curiously the problem disappears when I boot the "vanilla" (read non-SMP) kernel. I will look for a old 3com card tomorrow and install it so I can at least fetch the new CVS tree ;) Is there anyone out there who can point me to a possible solution of these problems?
