I suspect that there are enough multiprocessor-capable machines out there that simply require additional processors to be inserted. Fulfilling a developer request just takes care of the request. The only way to determine why Claudio is asking for a pair of processors is to ask Claudio. The thing that is always helpful for greasing the wheels is cash. This has been true in some form or another for thousands of years. Lots of things can occur when there's someone providing the piggy bank for a project.
