Have a look at the "optional" (for files) and "ignore" (for directories) keywords in man page. And see examples in /etc/mtree/special. Generate your entire specification and then modify using "optional" and "ignore" as you wish. Jeremy C. Reed p.s. Some other implementations of mtree(8) have an exclude feature.
