In my case the pattern produced by executing "find /" in a ssh session was enough to crash the VM when using the vlance driver and ESX 3.0.1. Modifying (lowering) the PCN_NTXSEGS value helped. (see http://archives.neohapsis.com/archives/openbsd/2006-12/1655.html)
