Hello list.
A friend of mine is trying to install a OpenBSD 4.2 box in order to run it as a
file server, print server, etc.
He bought a Intel DQ965GF MiniATX motherboard and a nice and pretty little case
to store it in.
He also bought 2 SATA disk because he would really like to build a mirrored
RAID array.
OpenBSD 4.2 installs correctly and detects all hardware, as long as no RAID
array is configured on the Intel 82801 controller. When he tries to configure a
"hardware" RAID array, OpenBSD can "see" the array as wd0, but no configuration
is possible as OpenBSD complains about "read only" access to the disk.
Unfortunately I have no access to the motherboard itself, so I can only report
what my pal told me via phone; moreover, he destroyed it during a bios upgrade
which failed. Tomorrow he'll contact the vendor and try to have the mobo
replaced, so I hope we'll manage to post some significant details.
In the meanwhile, has anyone had similar experiences with Intel DQ965GF boards?
I read that Intel 82801 controller is supported:
Intel 82801 (ICH/ICH0/ICH2/ICH3/ICH4/ICH4-M/ICH5/ICH5R/ICH6/ICH6M/ICH6R/ICH7)
(from www.openbsd.org/i386.html)
but I'm afraid my friend's board is "ICH8" whatever it means.
Should this board's controller prove unsupported, can anyone suggest us another
MiniATX board with full RAID support for OpenBSD 4.2?
Thank you all,
byee,
Manuel
