timezone. Automatically setting ntp peers to any subset is going to be
wrong somewhere.
Lets just drop this. There will be argument on each side and the fact is
that if users want to be sensitive to what is asked of ntp.org for using
them, each users can make the changes to what make sense to them.
Again, just for the record, beat me as much as you may like, I can take
it. The only intention was there in my original email, to be sensitive
to what was asked to be done for using the ntp.org pool, as to be a good
Internet citizen if you want. Do, as you see fit.
I recall there was a big wave of emails and flame when dlink and the
like were accuse to use all the same ntp stratus 1 servers in their
wireless routers, and pulling it down for to much usage.
When I had a problem, I research why it might be and found informations
that I thought would be relevant to others in the project, specially if
you read ntp.org site and the reason why, plus the setup they put in
place to help alleviates the problem and the load. My mistake to think
it may have been important to others and to share what wasn't in the
archive yet.
Obviously, I was way wrong thinking it was of value to pass around.
The fact is that it's already allow you to specify a server you want at
install time, so may be it might be as simple as telling users that they
may want to select a different server, or zone instead of the default
closer to where they are.
But again, what do I know.
I only recall many beating up dlink and the like for their lack of
social responsibility at the time (may be 2 years ago now) and when I
saw the requests and why as well as the new setup in place to help
improve the system at large, I thought it was good to pass the informations.
Sorry for my mistake and obviously for trying to be cautious of others
needs.

No need to start a flame war over it. Who ever want to be respectful of
the request can do so, the other can continue as is.
No harm done.
