Shouldn't be needed. I recommend you do
X -configure
as root, to get a basic xorg.conf.new, then edit that to add anything
you need (like XkbLayout that's the only reason i still need a conf
file).
If you're playing with xrandr, you may want to re-add the
Monitor-{lvds,vga} entries too.
