Switch the two around, try just the 1G part, get memtest and
see if the part is bad, get a live CD of something and see if
that works.

With those tests, you should be able to determine where the
problem lies. I'd bet that the part is bad, or isn't seated
properly, so taking it out and re-inserting it would be a
good idea.
