I was able to malloc (and use) 8191M on my 8G amd64 (it started
swapping, but OK). I had to raise my ulimit to this amount (ulimit -d
$(8*1024*1024)) for it to work. I can't seem to set a higher ulimit
than this (even as root), so I'm thinking this is some sort of limit
(don't know what imposes it though).
