I hope you followed the instructions in
$ pkg_info mplayer
and set the etc/sysctl.conf variables as instructed. Also, paying
attention to the notes about using the `-ac` switch to enable using
mp3lib flavor. The reason why it is disabled by default is becase it
relies on the system CPU having an FPU (Floating Point Unit).
If you want to always use the -ac option, you can toss a pair of
aliases into your ~/.kshrc
alias gmplayer='gmplayer -ac'
alias mplayer='mplayer -ac'
I've seen sync issues on i386, but I believe it's a library/codec/app
problem more than anything. They really aren't expecting the system
to not have a FPU. Quite often they just consider the system to be
under-powered for the task. The `-ac` switch might just solve your
problems, but in mplayer (and probably VLC), you can still enhance
playback a good deal through it's configuration.
In your ~/.mplayer/config you might try:
autosync=120
In your ~/.mplayer/gui.conf you might try:
autosync = "yes"
autosync_size = "120"
Also, giving mplayer sufficent cache is also *real* important for a
number of issues.
In your ~/.mplayer/config you might try:
cache=32768
In your ~/.mplayer/gui.conf you might try:
cache = "yes"
cache_size = "32768"
Good Luck!
