Of course. But the T43 is a laptop. Anything else to try if you're out in the field with it, or for whatever reason it's standalone? My T42 stopped working with one of the recent changes (already fixed). I blame myself for installing a snapshot without testing it before heading out with the unit. I just found myself in the same boat as the OP. There have been several times X has crashed on this machine and the console was left so dim I almost didn't notice that there was something to read. I'm at a loss how one can tell the machine locked up, panic'd, or the console is just dim without typing blindly. The OP seems convinced it panic'd, but then said he got no reaction to ddb commands.
