Is /etc/group documented somewhere, specifically, there are several
_groups
and I am trying to discover if they are read, I thought I had read that
_groups were ignored, but can't find reference to it one way or
another. man
-a group makes no mention of files, nor the file, apropos /etc/group
also
yields nothing, any pointers are appreciated, also, is this a hole in
the
documentation, or just my understanding of it?
You need to learn how to use the apropos/man utilities. Issuing an
apropos group returns lots of useful info:
or a more simple man -k group
.
.
.
group (5) - format of the group permissions file
group (8) - manage group information on the system
.
.
.
The number between the parenthesis specify in witch part of the manual
pages is the page you want, you only need to specify it:
man 5 group
And you're ready to go. Also, man man is always a good reading.
