my last encounter with ldbm, a few years back, drove me to bdb really fast, because my - though small - installation(s) seem to behave the opposite way. In any case, knowing how to repair a broken ldbm database would be a good thing. With bdb, there is dbX.Y_recover, which worked nicely for me when I needed it.
