You must have missed part of my original post, because otherwise you'd know that I've already solved the problem and got grub installed on the amd64 machine despite the lack of an amd64 package. So I have no need to do a port to solve my own problem. I might at some point consider doing it as a contribution to the OpenBSD community, but that's a different issue.
