described as uneasy and tense. Naturally, we at Child Foundation are concerned
not only for the peace and welfare of the country in general, but also for the
lives and well-being of approximately 4,000 children under our sponsorship in
Iran. At a moment like this, we sincerely encourage you to help us alleviate

A Special Letter
This month, it is our honor to share excerpts from letters of a sixteen year
old child and his sponsor of two years. The sponsor initially contacted us to
share this story, because he was so impressed by the letter! He asked Child
Foundation if the child had indeed written this letter since it is very well
written and it conveys a profound message. We then called Iran to verify that
the child did write the letter and indeed he did! This sponsored child is
vision impaired, and he has a very positive outlook on life. Your support makes
an incredible difference, as you will read in this inspiring letter:

"Just a few weeks ago I received a letter... I noticed that there were no
official cover letters, and all I saw was merely a hand-written letter, which
was composed in two pages and signed by my sponsored child! I started reading
the letter and about halfway through, tears were streaming from my eyes, and

feeling of unity with everything and everyone around me!"

10th Annual Iranian Festival
Mark your calendar for the upcoming Iranian Festival in Portland on August 1,
2009! The festival will take place at Portland State University in the South
Park blocks, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Child Foundation will have a booth at the
festival, please stop by!
Also, save the date for Child Foundation's Universal Childrens Day celebration
on November 22 in Irvine, California. Stay tuned for details!
$500 College Scholarship Awarded
Child Foundation is pleased to announce the recent award of a $500 college
scholarship given to the Iranian-American Professional Society of Oregon for
Farid Khoshnevissan, a recent graduate from Southridge High School in
Beaverton, Oregon. Farid was chosen for the scholarship because of his high GPA
and his level of participation in community service. He has been an active
volunteer at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Medical Teams
International, and the Tigard library. Farid is an honor roll student who plans
to attend California Polytechnic State University to study biomedical
engineering.
Child Foundation's Annual Board Meeting
On June 26, 2009, Child Foundation held it's annual board meeting. Child
Foundation's Board of Directors and staff members met to discuss the
accomplishments of the past year and the goals for next year. Child
Foundation's future goals include enhancing the website and e-marketing, and
developing the Afghanistan program.

this special award signed by President Barack Obama. Child Foundation has a
strong history of volunteer service for the past fifteen years. Established in
2003, this award honors individuals, families and groups who have demonstrated
a sustained commitment to volunteer service over the course of 12 months or
more. To qualify for the President's Volunteer Service Award, volunteers simply
submit a record of their service hours (100 hours or more) to Child Foundation
and we will verify the service and deliver the award. If you are considering
volunteering with Child Foundation this summer, any voluntee
