Hi Marco,
I just updated controller and disks firmware to the latest version
available.
The controller Dell SAS6IR does not have cache.
I tried the latest snapshot and this is the outcome:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/rsd0d bs=1m count=100
100+0 records in
100+0 records out
104857600 bytes transferred in 10.451 secs (10033167 bytes/sec)
FreeBSD 8 is more or less twice faster.
Regarding the other two issues.
The Intel PRO/1000 QP still does not work.
I can install the amd64 version but then it freezes at boot just after
"softraid0 at root".

You also really want to enable write cache on those disks hanging of
mpi. dlg was working on a diff to enable that by default.
