It is true that mandoc(1) still formats some aspects of Xenocara
manuals badly, but i *am* working on it, and i have also talked
to matthieu@ about it.  Current status is: .so is implemented
and committed, .de is implemented (so far, single line macros
with no parameters only), but not yet committed.

That is not a Xenocara problem.

Did you forget to adjust man.conf(5) before removing groff?
