That came from a Thunderbird I keep around just for testing stuff like this.
I had not suspected it before, mostly because of the server-side error:

  SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:tlsv1 alert access denied

That confused me a lot. Maybe that output requires a bit of improvement here?

I deleted ~/.thunderbird and... It worked!
