Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. This hasn't solved the problem,
however... I'm still getting:
fatal: smtpd: bind: Cannot assign requested address

This is after changing to network-online.target and also adding in
Restart=always for good measure. I think my next step will be to enable
the systemd-networkd-wait-online.service to see if that makes a
difference, even though it's not an ideal solution. Hopefully I'll have
time to mess with that tonight.

Can you please post your smtpd.conf?

Maybe this has something to do with the name chosen for the listening interface.
