I remember the time I stood in front of City Council and made a math error
after telling them I had been a Math teacher. Oh well! Don't forget that the
fire and policemen also take out of the pension their share. that they paid in
over the years, when they retire. This is a mistake that also must be
corrected. They are complaining even though this hurts their pension, and they
should realize that they are part of their problem. The City is a greater part
perhaps, but Carl and I figured how much it costs them and it is significant.
Tom Finney! Idiot, idiot, idiot. "House " gets by with these words, maybe I
cannot. It should be addressesed. I know how hard it would be to change it, but
it's not impossible. If we told people this I think many, many would sign a
petition. There are two problems and both need correction.

>From last night's presentation, it was apparent to me that today's
problem is primarily the result of conscious decisions made by city
council.  The council continually chose not to fund the pension when
it was already in a less than ideal position, moving it into the
terrible position it is in now.  As Mr. Burris stated, it is
impossible to bind future council's to not make the same mistakes.
For this reason, the primary solution, has to be first electing city
council members who will make the right decisions and then continually
reminding the council that it had better make those decisions right.
No matter how large or small of a tax we levy, if council continues to
make the management decisions it has in the past, the city will
eventually go bankrupt.  For this reason, electing good city council
members should be the citizens' primary objective in the battle to fix
the pension fund.

On that same note, the sooner police and fire pension is moved to a
system like LAGERS, the better.  Then council would not have the
option of not funding the plan.  With the ability to make the
situation worse removed, we can focus on fixing what we've already
broke and not end up watching one end fall apart while we try to put
the other end back together.
