In our local MapInfo newsletter I have read about a patch for MI 7.8 planned for February 2005, that should introduce a change in the MAP file format. In the future the datum code will be included in the MAP file (see mitab_spatialref.cpp for the datum codes). This is in order to solve problems with different datums with the same parameters.
