Hi Bob,
I think you are correct on both points.
I think you can only add objects to a tab
file using MITAB at the time the file is created – you certainly can’t
delete or edit them in an existing as far as I know and I’m not even sure
you can append to a file either.
From Danielle a while ago:
<< The library is designed so
that it could eventually support random
read/write access some day (hence all the checks
for
read-onle/write-only everywhere in the code), but
random access was
never implemented simply because that would have
added a non trivial
amount of work, and that was not a priority at the
time... and never has
been a priority for me or any paying client since
then.>>
Less sure on the balance RTREE – but
seem to remember reading something about this as well
Best wishes
James

Subject: [mitab] Editing existing
MapInfo tables
Dear List
My understanding from previous postings on the
list is that MITAB will
not allow you to edit an existing table that was
created by MapInfo.
I further seem to remember that the RTREE is not
balanced, ie the depth
of the tree might be much deeper where there is a
lot of geometry than
elsewhere.
Is it possible someone could comment on both these
points please?
Regards
Bob Young
