I assumed you where reading the "Build Instructions" page from the MITK Doxygen documentation: http://docs.mitk.org/nightly-qt4/BuildInstructionsPage.html . If I remember it correctly, linking mitkCore could take up to several minutes on MinGW, but if it hangs for more than i.e. 15 minutes, there is probably something wrong. We planned to also have a continuous MinGW integration test, but were not able to set it up yet.
