Some additional info: This trick works only with the NMake build. With the VS 2010 build (x86 Release), I rebuilt DGraph in release mode and removed the debug binary, then I wanted to rebuild CTK at the MITK superbuild level, since at the CTK level there were no project files. But it recreated the debug binary which fails.
