Dear Michael, HTTP error 407 means "Proxy Authentication Required", so I guess it is still some proxy issue. I just tried a clone from the URL you used and it worked fine.
Still you could use the github mirror but please note it is only a mirror of the master branch, it does not contain all the bug/topic branches.
