I first tried building MITK and running ExtApp on my Mac, with little success. I'm sure there were answers to my problems, but it wasn't critical for me to develop on the Mac... so I switched to a Windows 7 machine because it seemed as though MITK had existed on Windows for longer anyway.
I am still having trouble, with things like QT4 not being found... although it is installed. I'm currently downloading the QtSDK 1.1.2 (instead of 1.2) in case that is part of the problem. As someone who probably lacks the necessary experience with some of the prerequisite toolset... I'm finding it frustrating to develop with. All I want to be able to do is prototype a new type of visualisation and interaction for my PhD research. All these headaches with setting up to even compile the standard demo app are not productive for my work. I could resort to using C and OpenGL... but then I would lose all that good existing medical image application framework that exists in a tool like MITK. MITK appealed to me, during my literature review, because of how it seemed to be particularly good at catering for new forms of interaction. (My study is in the general area of Human-Computer Interaction.) Is there literally a step-by-step guide to installing all necessary prerequisites on a Windows machine from scratch?... a guide that does not make any presumptions about what development environment already exists? Should I be trying to use MSYS/MINGW... or is it easier to build in Visual Studio? If I could attend some MITK specific training, or a workshop, I would be happy to consider that as well.
