Hi Matt,
at first I wondered where you got that impression from, I guess maybe
Fig. 9 with the liver resection image?
MITK as a toolkit is able to display multi-label segmentations if you
count the different possible pixel values as different labels (this was
done in above mentioned image). Simply put different pixel values into
an mitk::Image and apply a lookup table of your choice.
MITK as an open source application does currently not offer segmentation
with multiple labels in one image. You can create multiple segmentations
using the "Segmentation" bundle and you can also display them at the
same time, but they would appear as multiple items in the list of data
items ("Data Manager"). Only perhaps (I did not look into the module
now) you could combine multiple segmentations by cleverly applying the
operations of "Basic Image Processing".
The image in the paper was an example of what is possible to implement
using the toolkit. The "multi-label resection" module was DKFZ internal.
