Hi Piotr,
I recently pushed some fixes regarding the Kinect problems (cf. Bug
12969<http://bugs.mitk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12969>).
Using the Kinect as an interaction device to control at least the interaction
with the rendering scene would be a useful extension to MITK. As we already
integrated Kinect image acquisition using OpenNI, NITE seems to be the first
option for also integrating Kinect interaction into MITK. We would welcome any
contribution regarding this topic.
I just opened a bug for collecting all requirements / discussions regarding
this feature request (Bug 13420<http://bugs.mitk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13420>).
It would be great if you could also provide your remarks there, that we have a
basis to discuss a proper solution.
Thank you,
Alex

Hi Justin,
I am trying to integrate the Kinect sensor as an input device based on hand
gesture recognition.
At first I would like to provide basic interactions such as panning, zooming
etc.
I am not planning to show any kinect-image in MITK.
At the moment I am testing NITE, Processing, KinectSpace and some other tools
to recognize gestures.
Basically I would like to create a new interactor which executes all fired
Kinect-events.
Regards,
Piotr

Hi Piotr,
I am happy to see, that we could at least solve your driver problem.
But I do not understand what you are trying to do with you Kinect. If you
just want to use MITK to display a depth-mage of your Kinect, you should take a
look at the ToF-Util-View. We are still facing some trouble and it might not be
working at the moment, but It should have all the code necessary ! to connect
to the Kinect. As things are looking right now, the troubles concerning the
Data-Node-Structure could be fixed by tomorrow evening!
So please stay in touch and let us know about your plans and the problems you
are facing !
Regards
Justin

Hi Justin, hi Sascha,
my installed drivers were not working at all so I just tried your suggestion
and installed the mentioned ones.
All sample applications in ..\OpenNI\Samples\Bin64\Release are working now so
thank you for that!
I am working on a Windows 7 x64 SP1 machine.
In my own MITK-application I just followed this docu:
http://kinectcar.ronsper.com/docs/openni/new_app.html to setup a new project.
Additionally I had to add the location of "glut32.lib" to "Additional
Dependencies" under the Linker section.
Is there any reason why OpenNI is not using the glut64.lib?
I just rebuilt the MITK solution and the Workbench crashes on the same line
again. The Workbench worked without the "KINECT" properties, so I assume I am
missing some build options.
Console output:
17.50 core.mod.ippicsupport.picFileIoFac: Registering PicFileIOFactory
28.14 core.mod.ippicsupport.picFileIoFac: Registering PicFileIOFactory
34.66 core.mod.ippicsupport.picFileIoFac: Registering PicFileIOFactory
88.99 core.mod.ippicsupport.picFileIoFac: Registering PicFileIOFactory
--- crash
I am n! ot using QtCreator to launch the application, just the StartVS_debug.b
a! t.
Greets,
Piotr
