It is a returning feature request here as well, just as it was at another
MITK-based project a little time ago.

Unfortunately, I never could dedicate time for this. I made some
customisations for our specific purposes (e.g. displayed the pixel value of
the rendered images at the crosshair), but it is not configurable. I can
share that code if it could help.

A general API would be useful for creating custom annotations.
