I added this comment to the bug (still applicable):

We need to check which VTK version is required by the CTK VTK library. 
CTK used to rely on very recent VTK code which was not officially 
released yet. The VTK versions used/required by MITK and CTK need to 
match and be supported by both.

Apart from the issue above, we typically only enable features in 
external libraries which are directly used/required by MITK modules or 
plug-ins. External projects are asked to create their own super-build 
configuration for additional features required in external libraries.
