Mike, what DJ Console do you have? (MP3 Control one or the MK2?) If you're using the MP3 Control one, you probably need to compile with the djconsole_legacy=1 flag (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
As for your SCONS woes, you don't have pkg-config set up the way every distribution does, and since you're running Linux from scratch, you're on your own (sorry).
