Hi guys,
We've been tracking this notorious "JACK doesn't work in Gutsy" problem
for a while now, and Amias Chandler thinks he figured out the fix:

The problem is, I need someone else to confirm that this is still broken
in Hardy.
Specifically, I need someone to run (in Hardy):
ldd /usr/lib/libportaudio.so.2
and
apt-cache depends libportaudio2
One of the Ubuntu Studio guys ran the apt-cache command and it showed
that PortAudio depended on JACK (implying JACK support was fixed). When
Amias ran it, it showed that it didn't depend on JACK (ie. JACK support
is still broken in Hardy).
I need someone to confirm either way, and then we can get help from
Ubuntu Studio/MOTU to fix this if it's still broken. The sooner someone
can help out with this, the better. We're running out of time for fixing
Hardy bugs!
