Upgrade your nvidia drivers on both Windows and Linux. That card is plenty fast, it should be able to run Mixxx fine.
I've seen X server crashes myself several times with both ATI and Nvidia cards, and it was always the driver's problem. Eventually some newer release of the respective driver fixed the problem. (We should get these companies to add Mixxx to their QA process, since for some reason or another, having embedded OpenGL seems to stress drivers in weird ways.)
